My Story
MALENE MARKUSSEN IS AN ARTIST AND SONGWRITER LIVING IN OSLO. HER MUSICAL ROOTS ARE IN THE POP-ELECTRONIC SOUNDSCAPE WITH INSPIRATION. HER GOAL IS TO MAKE MUSIC THAT CAN INSPIRE AND MOVE THE LISTENER THROUGH GOOD MELODIES AND EMOTIONAL LYRICS. .
Background:
Malene started singing and playing guitar back in her hometown Vestby at the age of 14. She took classical singing lessons while simultaneously forming a rock band and even had appearances in local musicals. She also won Drømme stipendet, a prize for being an active contributor to local culture.
With her band, she started playing gigs around in Norway at various rock clubs and music pubs. They released one album and one EP and were nominated for Live Band of the Year by the Music magazine Musikk Praksis before they parted ways in 2014.
Solo career:
In September 2015 the artist released her Norwegian debut single Alt Du Finner, a dark and minimalistic pop song which built up to the release of her debut album Aldri I Roin in 2016 on her own label, Markussen Music. The album can be described as alternative pop influenced by her unique experiences in life. It's also about the importance of always moving forward.
In 2017 the artist teamed up with well-known producers Peter Michelsen and Christoffer Simpson from Norsk Lydstudio and released a series of singles which culminated in her second solo album Under Vann in 2019. Under Vann is about the fragile parts in all of us, and tells stories about both strength and vulnerability. Two of these songs made it onto Spotify playlists including New Music Friday and Made in Norway and had several songs in Norwegian radio. In order to reach a wider audience, Malene proceeded to release a series of English singles building up to her third solo-album, Some Kind Of Rescue.
